The Summer Empire
Location: Upper reach
Capital: Braduk the Burning
Themesong: Blood of Angels
Characteristics: The Assiyim claim descent from empyrean spirits of fire dwelling close to the suns, and that this makes them more holy in Lyral’s eyes than those of other nations. There is some evidence for their claims—while most adni in the upper reach have quite
dark skin, the Assiyim have golden-brown skin, and some are born with strange abilities. Control of fire, immunity to being burned, the strength of two men while bathed in direct sunlight, and so on. Despite that, no thaumaturge has ever successfully spoken to one of
the “Watchers” the Assiyim claim descent from, and so their story is little accepted outside Assiah.
Assiah is not well-liked by its neighbors in the upper reach because its inhabitants have a well-deserved reputation for being insufferably arrogant. That they were some of the most effective warriors during the Dawn War certainly doesn’t help this arrogance, and
they receive frequent opportunities to prove their fighting prowess from aggravated parties in bars and inns throughout the Summer Empire. Assiah and Bannor have a…tempestuous relationship. Religious disputes are common and, while they rarely come to blows, it is easy to start a heated argument by mentioning the Watchers or Lyral in their hearing.
